University of Calicut complete three-peat at 2018 All India Inter University Women's Basketball Championship in Chennai

It took a thrilling overtime battle, but heroics, experience, and sheer will for success helped the University of Calicut state their claim to an incredible three-peat at India's most prestigious national women's collegiate title - the 2018 All India Inter University Women's Basketball Championship for Women - in Chennai on Tuesday. Calicut defeated Bharathiar University in the final to win the gold medal at Chennai's Sri Sai Ram Engineering College.

University of Calicut, from Malappuram in Kerala, faced a tough opponent against Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) based Bharathiar University. Bharathiar led 21-12 in the first quarter, but Calicut made a strong comeback to reverse the scores by the end of the fourth period to lead 61-52. Bharathiar equaled the scores at 84 at the end of regulation, but the tall duo of Elizabeth Hilarious (21) and Mayuka R. (18) rose to the occasion in overtime to hand Calicut the close 91-90 victory. Keerthi (31), Shreyanka (24), and Surya Dhaarshini (17) led the way for Bharathiar in the loss.

MG University from Kottayam (Kerala) won the bronze medal for the second consecutive year over Kannur with a 59-40 victory, led by Rose Mary (17).

Calicut University repeat to win 2016 All India Inter University Women Basketball title in Bhubaneswar

In India's most-competitive women's university championship, the reigning champions from Calicut once again rose above the rest to retain their title. Calicut University from Malappuram (Kerala) defeated Chennai's Hindustan University to win back-to-back titles in the All India Inter University Basketball for Women at KIIT Bhubaneswar (Odisha) on Thursday, December 29.

Led by Aswathy S Thampy (22) and Nimmy George (16) in the final, Calicut got off to a confident start, leading 32-20 over Hindustan at halftime. Calicut kept a steady hold on their lead in the second half to secure the 70-59 victory. Varsha Nandhini (23) and Srivihya S. Sekhar (17) led the way for Hindustan in a losing effort.

MG University from Kottayam (Kerala) took the bronze medal with a 66-41 win over Kannur on Thursday.

Calicut University win 2015 All India Inter University Women Basketball Tournament in New Delhi

A close-fought win in the final handed Calicut University of Malappuram (Kerala) the 2015 All India Inter University Basketball Tournament for Women title on Thursday, November 19. The tournament was held at the Jamia Hamdard University in New Delhi.

This was Calicut's first victory in this tournament after a gap of 13 years. The final was a well-contested matchup between Calicut and Hindustan University (Chennai). Calicut led 34-27 at halftime and kept up their close advantage to end the game with a 60-54 win. Aswathy S Thampy scored 22 for Calicut, while Elizabeth Hilarious added 16. Hindustan's leading scorer was Sruthy, who had a team-high 18 points in the loss.

57th Kerala State Basketball Championship to tip off in Manjeri on Tuesday

14 Men's teams and 12 Women's teams will make up for large contingent of competitors who are set to take part in the 57th Kerala State Basketball Championship in the city of Manjeri in Malappuram District, Kerala, from December 4-9, 2012. The championship, which is being held at the Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School in the city, is being organised by the Kerala Basketball Association under the auspices of Malappuram District Basketball Association.

The tournament is being held in preparation for India's Senior National Basketball Championship, slated to held in Ludhiana, Punjab, in the end of December. Kerala's team for the Senior Nationals will be chosen based on their performance at this tournament.

This 6 day Championship will features 47 matches, which are scheduled to be played on a league and knockout basis.

A ‘Referees Clinic’ will be set up to familiarise the players with the newly implemented laws for the championship. International Referee Fr. Philips Vadakeekalam, Chairman of Technical Commission (Kerala), will lead the clinic on the venue from 1 PM on December 4th the opening day. This will be followed by a test for aspiring Referees on 6th December.

Thiruvanathapuram (Men) and Kannur (Women) are the defending Champions of this tournament. India's international stars Basil Phillip, Eudrick Perreira, and Jeena PS can be expected to take part in the championship.
