  7. Hi Karan,
Really enjoy your blog. Great content about the world of Indian basketball which spans continents. I wonder if you would consider writing about some more Canadian talent. There is a phenomenal point guard, Arun Kumar, who is a player (of Kerala ancestry) that I think you should cover.

    http://northborderbasketball.com/player/arun-kumar/

Also, since Canada has become such a hotbed of talent, it would be nice if you could do a story on the Indian-Canadians who play for University teams in Canada.

    Thanks,
    Joe V.

    1. Do you play for a school or college team? The best advice I can give is to tryout for your school team, and if you make it, you must impress your coach enough so that the can direct you to the district/state tryouts.

  11. Karan, hello and thanks for the blog. It's really informative, perhaps the best source of info and opinions on basketball in India.

I'm Igor Seliun and I work for the Association of Student Basketball in Moscow, Russia. At the moment, we're doing a small research on college basketball leagues in the world, so I wanted to ask you a question. If it's not too much trouble, of course.

Could you please tell how many college basketball teams are there in India (men and women, at least approximately)? So far I've only found that 16 best teams play in the All India tournament, and they represent local zones. But how many teams start playing in the zones? And do the play all year round?

Anyways, sorry for bothering you with this. It'd be great to hear from you.

    1. Hi Igor!
Thanks for contacting me. If you are asking in reference to the BFI IMG-Reliance College League, then the total number of teams (men and women) that took part this season were 160 (10 men's teams and 10 women's teams from each of the 8 cities). Next year, the number of cities may rise so the number of teams will too

  12. Hi Karan , well I am a basketball follower in India . It's nice to see Indian team knocking down China in Asian Cup and fought bravely against Iran as well which is sign of improvement . I think we still lack the quality shooting and post players else we can really perform well at international stage . Post plays of THE GREAT Ajmer Singh and Shooting guard of Ram Kumar's calibre are missing. I remember when these greats almost troubled power horse Iran in 1988 during a tour to Iran

    1. Thanks for your comment! Yes, those were also the golden years, but this is a different team. Compared to then and now, Asian teams have many more foreign-born players and its tougher for India to break into the top list. I feel that if this team continues to work hard, they can come close to matching the past greats

  14. Hey Karan!

The Indian Super League recently got launched and its been a massive hit. I mean I'm already a football fan now and I can clearly see professionalism in ISL. Also, Indian School and College leagues were given a overhaul and I see some professionalism here too. Schedules and Results are posted on the official pages of the leagues and I like the fact that this time they're using graphics instead of simple text(may be because of BFI's tie-up with GoZoop). Also, the school and college courts are refurbished. We also know that IMG-Reliance and BFI will use ISL as a blueprint for launching a pro-hoops league.

All the things that I said are raising the standard of hoops in the country - ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

ISL ends in December and so do the School and College Leagues. I'm predicting them to be successfull(why wouldn't I).

Personally, do you think that IMG and BFI will atleast officially announce a Pro league in 2015 and then we can have it launched it any time in the later half of 2016?

    What do you say?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Piyush. I agree with all of your points above. It's great to see the ISL doing well in India, and also encouraging to see BFI bring a little more professionalism in the ISBL/ICBL. I'm not sure what the BFI are waiting for to announce the pro league, but I hope that they do it soon - i would like the basketball pro league to start by this time next year. Lets hope it happens

    1. If you're in college, try and find your college team coach and he'll be able to give you some pointers. Otherwise, look for basketball courts in Raipur or nearby Bhillai Steel Plant that have a good team, and see if they give you a chance

  34. Ireland offers competitive and attractive salaries for nurses, highlighting their vital role in the healthcare system. Entry-level nurses can begin their careers with annual earnings of about €30,000. With time and accumulated experience, this figure can grow to approximately €40,000 per year. Senior nurses and those working in specialized fields often see their salaries range between €50,000 to €60,000. Additional perks such as overtime pay, attractive pension plans, and professional development opportunities further enrich the compensation package. Factors like geographic location and the type of healthcare facility can also influence overall earnings, making nursing careers in Ireland both rewarding and sustainable.
