Modern School (Boys) and Motilal Nehru School (Girls) win 2016 Win Mumby Basketball Tournament in Mussoorie

It might be a little difficult for newcomers to adjust to the altitude five and a half thousand feet above sea level in Mussoorie. Physical intensity of any type is a challenge. A high-caliber basketball game becomes a true test of endurance.

But it was under these difficult conditions that the truest stars are born. The Woodstock School in Mussoorie hosted the 17th Win Mumbai All India Basketball Tournament over the past week, featuring sixteen teams in a the largest school competition of its kind in North India. The tournament completed with two entertaining final games on Saturday, November 12, as New Delhi's Modern School (Boys) and Rai's Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Girls) won the tournament in their respective divisions.

This was the second consecutive Win Mumby win for Modern School Boys, who defeated Welham Boys' (Dehradun) in the final this year with relative ease, 56-37. The girls' final was a closer affair, but the Motilal Nehru School team from Rai (Haryana) upset Modern School's hopes for a double by defeating Modern's Girls' team 50-47.

Woodstock’s Student Life Coordinator and Head of Sports Ajay Mark said, “This year the standard was particularly high, with exceptional play and sportsmanship. The competition was closely fought, and in particular the semi-finals where only a handful of points separated the teams. We should remember that while this is a platform for school level players, some of the players we see here at Win Mumby could well be representing the country in the near future.”

The 2016 Win Mumby tournament was held from November 9-12. Participating teams included:
  • Boys: Welham Boys' School (Dehradun), The Doon School (Dehradun), Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Rai), Sacred Souls School (Gharuan), The Asian School (Dehradun), Modern School (New Delhi), Bangalore International School (Bengaluru), Woodstock School (Mussoorie).
  • Girls:Welham Girls School (Dehradun), Sacred Souls School (Gharuan), Strawberry Fields High School (Chandigarh), Modern School (New Delhi), Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Rai), St. Joseph Academy (Dehradun), The Heritage School (Gurgaon) and Woodstock School (Mussoorie).
